FAQs
Find out more about how our policy works and what makes it completely unique.
-
What type of homes do you insure?
We can insure most types of homes, including older properties, holiday homes and let properties. They have to be located in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. We cannot normally accept properties that have suffered from Subsidence or Flood losses, but each case is individually considered.
-
I operate a business from my home. Is this a problem?
We will normally accept business use and welcome in particular people who trade in fine art, antiques and collectables (but only costume jewellery). Mixed tenure properties (e.g. including a shop) can be considered.
-
Can I insure more than one property under this policy?
We can insure multiple properties under one policy, however a separate proposal form needs to be completed for each property, so that we can rate them individually.
-
Can I insure a single item under this policy?
This policy is a household insurance policy, but we realise that you may already have a Contents policy in force which is unable to cater for high value items. We normally charge our standard rates to insure individual items on their own, but if you subsequently decide to take out a comprehensive policy with us we will apply multi section discounts across the board from the date that you expand your policy cover.
-
Does the policy cover against Accidental Damage?
Under the Buildings and Contents sections of the policy Accidental Damage cover only automatically applies to certain items, such as televisions, double glazing, mirrors, underground pipes and cables. Full Accidental Damage cover is one of the options available at an additional premium. Many people feel that the basic cover is adequate for their needs and are rewarded by lower premiums as a result. If you select the Collection and Valuables sections of the policy, Accidental Damage is automatically included for such items.
-
My alarm is not NSI/NACOSS or SSAIB approved. Is this a problem?
Installers that are registered with and approved by these organisations carry special insurance against their systems failing, which is rewarded by our insurers in the form of lower premiums for their clients.
If an intruder or fire alarm has been installed by a non registered installer and is subject to an annual maintenance agreement, we may be able to accept it and to grant a small premium discount.
-
Do I have to fit an approved safe for my Jewellery and Watches?
We consider each risk on its merit and will only recommend extra security arrangements when we feel they are necessary for your protection or to help us to reduce your premium.
-
What kind of Collection can I insure under this policy?
We can consider almost all types of collections under this policy, apart from live animals or vehicles that need to be covered for "road risk".
-
Is damage caused by pets covered under this policy?
The majority of accidents caused by pets are not covered under this policy.
-
Do I have to fit an approved safe for my jewellery and watches?
You will be advised if you need to fit a safe and the requirement varies from case to case.
-
How do I make changes to my policy?
When you need to make changes to your policy you call up your original proposal form and make whatever alterations you require. Submit the form back to us and we will quote revised terms for you to consider before you ask us to proceed with the changes. Your proposal form and policy schedule will be updated and your old records archived for future reference.
-
What happens at renewal?
Renewal invitations will normally be invited at least 21 days prior to the expiry of your current policy. You will be invited to review your information and to request us to quote for revised terms.
We will normally apply a factor of indexation to your Building and General Contents sums insured, but we do not index link other policy sections.
-
What happens if I forget my password?
For your protection, access to your personal details is only available via a user name and password.
The user name will normally be your e-mail address and the computer program randomly generates a password, which you can change at any time.
If you forget your password, please contact us and we will send you a fresh password by e-mail, once we have asked you some security questions that are based on the client information that you have supplied to us.
